Physical properties: White powdery crystals, which become pale yellow when oxygen defects occur in the crystal lattice, are amphoteric oxides, hardly soluble in water, slightly soluble in hydrofluoric acid, and difficult to dissolve in inorganic acids other than hydrofluoric acid. Soluble in molten NaOH, KOH, K2S2O7, KHSO4.
Main applications: as raw materials for metal niobium, niobium bars, niobium alloys, niobium carbides, tantalum-niobium composites, electronic ceramics, optical glass and lithium niobate crystals.
